Location: Bond Street– London

About School
The growth of the College in the last decade has been phenomenal, and the consequent addition of Hannah House, formerly the management training HQ of Marks and Spencer PLC, ensures that our students have a spacious and versatile learning environment.

Hannah House is home to a new library and learning resource centre, a thirty terminal internet cafe which boosts the college internet access to over 100 terminals, a subsidised restaurant, many more classrooms and, significantly, a new language school will allow the College to recruit students from countries whose citizens are not native speakers of English, by providing language training that can either be taken in advance of a degree programme or simultaneously.

With over 1000 new students each year, mostly aged between 18 and 25, from over 100 countries around the world, West London College is a truly international environment.

Courses

All courses follow the requirements of the relevant UK examination authorities and lead to qualifications awarded by professional bodies or degrees awarded by British Universities.

Each course has been selected for its relevance to commerce and industry and for its international recognition as evidence of professional competence. Students can rest assured that their education will serve them well in their future careers.
As the travel industry prospers the demand for qualified staff has become greater than ever before, and to meet the need for people with industry recognised professional qualifications West London College has joined forces with Virgin Atlantic, CTH and Guild of Business Travel Agents to develop study programmes that are tailor made to the industry's special requirements.

Entry Requirements

West London College training does not normally require, on the part of the student, any previous knowledge of the subjects to be studied. However, prospective students should have attained a reasonable level of literacy and numeracy, or, where they wish to enrol for Professional examination courses, be able to provide evidence of holding the necessary GCE passes or their equivalent. Educational certificates held by intending students will vary from country to country; the College Faculty will judge these qualifications on their merits and advise the student accordingly.

Tuition is in English. Intending students must therefore have reached a reasonable level of fluency. To take care of any difficulties that may arise, the College has access to a remedial English Language Course and must reserve the right to transfer to this course any student whose command of English is inadequate for a proper understanding of the course for which he or she has enrolled.

Facilities
With the addition of Hannah House the College now has twenty air-conditioned classrooms complete with whiteboards and digital projectors (which are linked to the College computer network), two computer rooms equipped with the latest flat-screen technology, an extensive library with full time librarian, language lab and computer terminals for electronic learning, an internet cafe, a subsidised restaurant and, on the top floor of Parliament House, a student services and resource centre with private-study facilities and student common room.

Social Programme / Activities
There is a active social programme every week.

Accommodation
WLC provides comfortable reasonably priced hostel accommodation for all new full time students.

It is not compulsory to use this service; many students have friends and relatives in London that they can stay with. But for those who need accommodation we offer excellent hostel facilities within easy travelling distance of the College. The hostels are located in some of the most desirable and fashionable areas of London: Notting Hill, Bayswater, Swiss Cottage, Queensway etc, and provide comfortable half-board accommodation at very reasonable rates.

The advantages of living in the hostels are numerous. Finding decent accommodation in London is difficult, even for Londoners, so for anyone new to the city it is very important to have somewhere safe, secure, and comfortable to go to on arrival. Also, the hostels provide meals, so students who are not used to looking after themselves are well catered for. But perhaps the biggest advantage of all is that the hostels offer a social life. Students who are new to London need to make friends quickly and the hostels make this easy. Where possible we accommodate students who are on the same course together at the same hostel.

Once a student has accepted the offer of a place at the College and has paid tuition fees, they will be sent an Accommodation Booking Form which they need to complete and send in to the Student Services team, who then send confirmation. It's as easy as that!

As Europe's largest city London offers a vast range of accommodation, with students tending to stay in hostels, with host families (also known as Homestay) or renting a flat or house and sharing with other students.

Although the majority of students will probably end up renting a shared flat/house this is probably best arranged once you have been in London for a little while, to gain experience, to get your bearings and to have time to make friends.

So, if you are coming to London for the first time we recommend that you choose to either spend at least the first few weeks in a hostel or with a host family, both of which we can arrange.

Hostel Accommodation
The College can arrange hostel accommodation with one of eleven London Hostel Association residences (see: www.london-hostels.co.uk). Hostel accommodation is popular because it is good value, all-inclusive and the hostels are conveniently located in central London (travel zones one and two). Hostels provide a clean, secure living environment and are ideal for students who are new to London.

The weekly rate includes a continental breakfast and an evening meal on weekdays, with a cooked breakfast and an evening meal at weekends. The hostel provides a variety of dishes each mealtime, with at least one vegetarian option always available. Hostel bookings are made for an initial period of three weeks. If you would like to stay longer you can extend your booking on arrival.

Other Hostel Accommodation
In addition to the catered LHA Hostels used regularly by the College there are many other hostels that provide long-term student accommodation. Below is a list of useful website addresses from which you can find out more about other hostels, their room rates and availability.

Homestay Accommodation
We can also arrange Homestay accommodation. Living with a British family is a good option for those keen to improve their English and learn more about British culture. Families can help students familiarise themselves with London and provide comfortable accommodation within easy travelling distance of the College. Homestay bookings are made for an initial period of three weeks. If you would like to stay longer you can extend your booking on arrival.

Flat/House Shares
Sharing a flat/house with friends or classmates is a very popular option with London's students. Students often feel that this type of accommodation represents the best value for money, particularly as they are able to exercise choice when it comes to facilities and location.

However, it may be difficult to find this type of accommodation prior to coming to London. Before committing yourself to anything it is advisable that you visit the accommodation and meet the people you will share with.

Once you are here in London the following websites will give you some ideas about what type of accommodation is available. In addition, WLC students regularly advertise rooms and houses on the College's notice boards.

General Advice and Information
