F Visas: Academic Students

Who should apply?
This visa is for a person who wants to go to the U.S. to go through a full course of study at an educational institution approved by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Spouse & Children
The spouse or children of a student are also entitled to accompany or join the holder of an F-1 Visa. They can apply for an F-2 Visa. A spouse or child with an F-2 Visa cannot seek employment in the U.S.
If you want your spouse/child to travel to the U.S. with you, apply for your visas at the same time. Book your visa interview appointments for the same day and attend your visa interview together.

NONIMMIGRANT VISAS

Required Documents: Mandatory & Supporting

Mandatory Documents
You must bring the following documents to your visa interview:

  1. A passport that must be valid on entry to the U.S. Applicants whose passports will expire in less than six months are strongly encouraged to renew their passports prior to traveling to the U.S. as you will be admitted only until the date on which the passport expires.
  2. A completed and signed Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-156 Form)
  3. One photo that matches the requirements
  4. A completed and signed Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-157 Form) only if you are 15 to 55 years of age
  5. HDFC Bank Visa Fee Receipt with two bar code stickers.
  6. Interview appointment letter.
  7. A completed and signed DS-158 Form only if you are applying for a F-1, M-1 or J-1 visa. 
  8. Demand draft for the Blanket L-1 Visa Fee only if you are the principal applicant for a L-1 visa and are using a blanket petition to apply for your visa.
  9. Demand draft for the Visa Issuance Fee, if applicable. Indian and Bhutanese citizens and holders of the yellow Identity Certificate are exempt from this fee.
